Background of the Project
A SME Development Fund managed by Trade and Industry Department, HKSAR is granted to sponsor a “Competitiveness Enhancement Program for Hong Kong Electronics Manufacturers on the Application of Embedded Software”. The project is championed by the America Hong Kong Electronics Association (AHKEA) with the support from Hong Kong Productivity Council as the Project Manager.
Scope of the Competitiveness Enhancement Program
Any products with IC Chip of MCU (micro-controller), Microprocessor or DSP (digital signal processor) and any products with built in firmware using a non-volatile memory devices (ROM, PROM, OTP or FLASH ROM)
Products using embedded software include LCD and Flat Panel TV, remote controller, MP3/PMP, DSC, DV, VCR and digital VCR, DVD/VCD, electronics games, talking toys, mobile phones, electronic PDA/organizer/databank, electronic household appliances…….
Benefit from the Enhancement Program
SME participated in this program will have the opportunity to provide input for the future development of embedded software. Their company profile will be listed in the printed publications and electronic public domain which should foster both local and overseas business opportunities. Free admission to public seminars and discounted offer to special activities will also be granted.
Highlights of Major Project Events
This event was formally kicked off on 25 May 2007 and more than 80 participants consisted of electronics manufacturers and embedded software solution providers and representatives from Consulate General of Canada, Hong Kong Trade Development Council , Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Ltd (ASTRI) and Wen Wei Po have attended.
At the event, Nr Victor Ng, Chairman of Embedded Software Sub Committee/AHKEA presented to the participants the overall objectives of the program. Mr Myron Kwan, Vice chairman of the Sub Committee , Gary Yu and Andrew Ip, members of the Project Sub Committee have briefed the participants the project scope and data base arrangement. Ms Christine Choy and Mr Victor Choi have presented the marketing and publicity strategy for the program. Mr Alan Kan, Secretary General of AHKEA has extended invitation to all participants for joining the project. The response from the participants were very encouraging. More than 70 participants indicated their interest to play a role in the project by participating in the survey and research related task, data base searching, publicity and marketing or event management.
Visit to the Hong Kong Science and Technology parks (HKSTP) on 27 July 2007
All the participants of the Project kicked off dinner were re-invited to participate in the visit to the Hong Kong science and Technology Parks. Participants were greeted by Mr Lee Shing See, GBS, OBE, Jp, Chief Executive Officer and Senior executives of HKSTP at the core building. Mr MY Wong, Special Advisor to the CEO, HKSTP has accompanied all participants to tour the Hi-Tech companies, laboratories and Phase II of HKSTP.
At the dinner held in HKSTP, Mr Victor Ng, Chairman of the Embedded Software Project Sub Committee/AHKEA has made a progress report on the SME funded project. Participants were pleased to learn about the good progress and the plan to finalize the survey questionnaires to be distributed to 300 manufacturers, 90 service/solution providers by September 2007.
