Free Seminar - Driving on the Technology Highway
of Hong Kong
To
focus and stimulate technology transfer and development of
respective critical components industries, a series of free
half-day
seminars
are being
organized
monthly
by
TechMart of HKPC
and co-organized
by Hong
Kong Critical Components Manufacturers Association
(HKCCMA),
America Hong
Kong
Electronics Association (AHKEA)
and Hong Kong
Optoelectronics Association
(HKOEA).
The first seminars was conducted on June 9, 2003 at Techmart Hall of
HKPC, over 35 executives and professionals from industry attended
this seminar.

The MC, Dr.
Michael Hui announced the start of seminar at 3:35 pm, Dr. Stephen
Lee, Branch Director of HKPC delivered a opening speech, Mr.
Mark Lam - President of HKCCMA, Mr. Robert Li - Chairman of AHKEA
and Mr. William Yim - Sr. Vice President of HKOEA also
delivered a short speech about their support to this program.

It
is important to facilitate Hong Kong to become a major center of
innovation and technology, and a hub for high value-added,
skill-intensive production and related services facilities in Asia.
To cope with this challenge, the Hong Kong Science and Technology
Parks provide world-class facilities like IC Data Centre, IC EDA
Centre, IC Probe and Test Development Centre, Photonics Development
Support Centre, Reliability Lab and Product Analysis Lab, to
innovation and technology development and the upgrading of industry
and related service capabilities.

The
rapid adoption of smart cards in Banking Sector and Identity Card
(ID) applications has created a huge potential market and wealth for
semiconductor, electronic and Information Technology (IT)
industries. The increasing interest of using Smart Card as a web
based authentication and ID providing device has speeded up the
commercial transaction, in particular the launching of Smart ID Card
project which provides an important IT infrastructure for the
expansion of eCommerce business.

Virtual Singers and
Newsreaders and Their Applications to Education and
Entertainment

Virtual
singer and newsreader
system has been developed recently by CityU and can generate virtual
human
characters that can sing songs and read stories and news. The system
performs speech signal analysis,
voice and lip
synchronisation and human face expression production and animation.
It has numerous applications in
education and
entertainment, such as for virtual classrooms, multimedia messages
on smart mobile phones, MTV,
Karaoke, and graphics and animation on computers and
the web.

Dr. Keung - Acting President of HKPC welcome the participants and
conduct a lucky draw.




The first seminar was successfully ended at 5:45, the
second seminar will be conducted on July 14, 2003 Monday.
