A Free seminar on
"Cash & Risk: How Will Trends in Trade Finance Affect Your
Business?" was held on Oct 14, 2003 at HKCEC. The seminar was
organized by The Hong Kong Exporters Association and Hong Kong Trade
Development Council, and Supported by Federation of Hong Kong
Industries, America Hong Kong Electronics Association and The Hong
Kong Electronic Industries Association.
The seminar started at 2:45 pm, Mr. Cliff Sun, Chairman of The Hong
Kong Exporters' Association, presented an opening speech.

After
souvenir presentation to the Guest Speakers. the following three talks were presented:
1) "Latest global trends and hot topics in trade finance" - by Mr.
Evan Lau, Credit & Marketing Manager, Wells Fargo Bank.
2) "The Different options in trade finance: LC Financing vs
Factoring vs Credit insurance" - by Ms. Freda Dan, Credit &
Factoring Manager, Wells Fargo Bank.
3) "Tips on sound financial management" - by Mr. Charles Chan,
Honorary Auditor of HKEA, and MD of Charles, Chan, Ip & Fung CPA
Ltd.

This seminar have
addressed:
1) The growth in open account trade.
2) Alternative solutions to buyer risk and cash flow gaps.
Differences among North America, Europe and China will be
considered. The differences among LCs, credit insurance, and
factoring (including receivable finance) will be explored too.
Special attention will be directed to factoring since it is not as
well known as other trade finance solution.
After a Q & A and refreshment sessions, the seminar was successfully ended at 4:15 pm.
